Privacy Policy

What we do NOT collect

• We do not log which domains you check.
• We do not store your IP address in our application database.
• We do not require an account or personal details to run checks.
• We do not sell or share data with third-party data brokers.
• We do not send marketing emails — ever.

What we DO store (and why)

• Global "recently checked" feed: when any check runs, we store only the domain name, the result (up / down / protected) and the time — never who asked. This powers the public feed on our homepage.
• Response-time history: anonymous timing data per domain for the last 24 hours, used for the performance graphs. Inactive files are automatically deleted after 7 days.
• Live outage board: anonymous counters of domains currently reported down, kept for a maximum of 24 hours.
• "Notify me" alerts: if you opt in, we store your email address together with the domain you are watching, solely to send the "it's back up" alert. The entry is deleted automatically once the alert is sent.
• Theme preference: stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and never transmitted to us.

Cookies

We use a single optional cookie to prevent spam on the "it's down for me too" report button — it simply remembers for one hour that you already reported a domain. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Third-party services

• Fonts: typefaces are served by Google Fonts, which may see standard request metadata (such as your IP) when your browser fetches them.
• Analytics: we may use privacy-focused, aggregate analytics (e.g. Cloudflare Web Analytics) to understand traffic trends; these do not identify you personally.

Data retention & security

Status data is kept for a maximum of 24 hours (7 days for inactive graph files), alert emails are deleted once sent, and all data lives on our own secured VPS — not on third-party marketing platforms. For any privacy question or request, email hello@websitedownornot.com.
